During my spring semester of chemistry in Andrews class, I learned how I work in relation to the structure of a class. High Tech High is very student based in general, but some classes/teachers structure their classes to be firmer than others. Andrews class was pretty far over on the unstructured/student directed side of this spectrum.
I held an A+ throughout the semester, however I found myself getting off task during class because of all the work time and sometimes not really knowing how to challenge myself but not get overwhelmed. Because of this its obvious that I, personally, work better when the class has a more structured curriculum than unstructured, while the class is based off of what students show interest in. I was motivated more when there was an end product to the experiment, but it was hard for me to be self motivated from day one when I didn't really know anything about chemistry.
Overall, I did some fun things this year, but I would have preferred a little more instruction since i'm very unfamiliar with chemistry ad what it includes.
